For the fifth year in a row, McDonald’s KSA successfully concluded its ninth workshop dedicated for its Capacities Building Program for people with Down syndrome at Al Ahsa region, supervised by DSCA Charitable Association. The workshop was titled “Communication Skills for People with Down Syndrome”.
The workshops began on the 11th and 12th of December in King Faisal University, Al Ahsa, where they targeted managers and supervisors of charitable centers and associations that serve people with Down syndrome. Members of the teaching faculty and special education staff were also present, as meetings were held with specialists and parents to discuss important topics such as communication skills, challenges and solutions as well as alternative means of communication. The workshops’ main purpose was to empower those with Down syndrome to be active, productive and independent members of society, enabling them to manage their everyday life.
The number of attendees reached over 402 participants. Since the launch of the first workshop in 2017, the total number of people who attended all 8 previous workshops reached more than 1800 attendees, including mothers and specialists who greatly benefitted from these events. Financially, the sum that was collected throughout the past eight workshops amounted more than SAR 700,000.
